Akureyri is at the end of Eyjafjordur – the longest fjord in Iceland The fjord is narrow (around
6–10 km wide and 60 km long), and is surrounded by mountains. The
sheltered stretch of water at its end (Pollurinn) is the perfect location for a harbour.

The master plan and local plan will be ready in early 2013 and construction will also be able to start in 2013
